La Metairie Gites For Couples

Open most of the year with free entry, this chateau set in undulating parkland with lakes is an ideal spot for picnics. It hosts exhibitions for artists and sculptors, though this is secondary to the superb architecture and beautifully decorated interiors. Located at Bignan just a short drive from our gites, enter La Metairie with postcode 56500 and your satnav will take you close to the entrance. A highly recommended place to visit that will cost you nothing. There is an on-site cafe if you need refreshments. There are toilets in the main house (basement) which are worth a visit, as the old fashioned kitchens are en-route which house the largest cast iron cooking range you'll ever see!

Hennebont Medieval Festival July 2018

Gites For Couples South Brittany
Held during the last weekend in July every year, this is a large Medieval market gathering 80 craftsmen all in costume.  For two days the city is transformed into a true Medieval city with performers and parades through the streets where you are able to buy costumes, jewellery, trinkets, local crafts and Breton delicacies. Watch the parades and sideshows which occur throughout the day. All the 'rabble' can feast at the medieval restaurant (have a pig roast!), in an environment convivial and musical. The day finishes with original spectables followed by the Medieval Ball. There is an entrance fee for events such as the jousing tournament which is run 2 or 3 times each day and the fireworks display and ball which is held on Saturday night.

Coastline, Beaches & Lakes
The spectacular river Blavet, as well as numerous large lakes, such as Lac du Guerledan,  which has sandy shorelines and safe swimming areas together with picnic facilities, are close by.  The 988 acre Lake Guerledan is being drained this year for the first time in 30 years to facilitate maintenance of the hydro-electric dam. This will reveal numerous old locks of the Nantes / Brest Canal, several old houses and a church when the valley was flooded to make the lake. Several million visitors are expected to visit the spectacle which begins in March 2015 and will take approximately 3-4 months to fully drain.
